Conserving Carbon Stores
All living plants and animals are made with carbon, and those that lived a long while ago have become fossil fuels. If we can leave more of the earth’s coal, gas, oil and forests where they are, instead of mining, logging and burning them, we will produce far less greenhouse gases.
So our challenge is to operate with a lower dependence on these resources.
The cost of dirty energy is forecast to double very soon.
Convert to clean energy and reduce your consumption — and save money long term.
Recycle to Conserve CarbonProtecting our native forests, which are existing long-term carbon sinks, is an important focus of the C4 Healesville Group.
Native forests are fundamental to our key biodiversity values—and are the source of Melbourne’s water supply. Our region is blessed with these living carbon stores.
The logging of forests in Victoria means in soil disturbance and burns that release 10 million tons of CO2 into the atmosphere each year.Choose recycled or plantation timbers for building and furniture products—and buy only recycled paper products.
Woodchipping for paper products means faster breakdown into greenhouse pollution.
For every 1 tonne of recycled paper purchased, we will save:
• Approximately 13 trees
• 956 kilograms of CO2 emissions
• 33,122 litres of wastewater
• 510 kilograms of solid waste
